My dd (6) is in the local primary school. my ds2 will be joining her part-time in the nursery class in September.

We were asked to select a preference - morning or afternoon session. I choose the moring as dd already there. Have spoken to the Secretary at the school a few times and she told me that they will always try to place children in the moring session if they already have a sibling in the school. Great, makes sense.

Recieved list yesterday, he's in the afternoon. Spoke to Head to ask if the 28 morning pupils all had siblings in the school, she said that was not the policy of the school, she had never heard of this, the list had been made, so tough (basically)!

I am fuming, what can I do?

Is your dd not there full time? Why does it matter if morning or afternoon?

dd is there full time. Its ds2 thats staring in September.

Why does it matter?

In my daughter's school in the first year of pre-school (French école maternelle), the children born between January and June do afternoon sessions and the children born between July and December do morning sessions (on the basis that they are younger, therefore more likely to still take a nap in the afternoon).

I'm a bit confused as to what the problem is - you say you stated a preference for morning because dd is already there, but as MrsGuy says, she is already there in the morning and in the afternoon, so what's the difference?

Excuse me if I am missing something obvious!

ziopin · 22/05/2008 11:56

My daughter is there already yes, thats not the problem.

My son is starting (part-time)in September and they told me that he would be offered a morning place as his older sister was already there (and I have already arranged childcare! , but now they have given him an afternoon place. Hope that clarifies

OK, I can see that it's a pain if you were told that he would get mornings and so you arranged childcare accordingly.

Bad luck.

I had this with my ds2 and was also a bit peeved about it. Not a lot you can do though. At least he won't be falling asleep in the afternoon just as you set off to collect your dd.

flowerybeanbag · 22/05/2008 12:05

Aha, the dd being there bit threw me off the scent!

Yes, v annoying if you were told it would be mornings and you've organised your childcare round that.

I have no helpful advice though!
