St Christopher’s The Hall or St David’s Prep

Hi everyone,

We’re currently exploring options for a small, local independent school for our children and would really appreciate any insight or personal experiences with either St David’s Prep or St Christopher’s.

We’re ideally looking for somewhere that’s nurturing, has a strong sense of community, and supports a range of personalities — our two children are quite different, so we’re hoping for a school that recognises and values individuality.

If anyone has children there currently or in the past, we’d love to hear about your impressions of the teaching, pastoral care, extracurriculars, and anything else you think might be helpful.

Thanks so much in advance!

Best to repost with Bromley in the subject line

Hi my children had a great time at St David’s and couldn’t have been happier. Both my kids are very different. The staff are approachable and the curriculum is accessible to all. They have a good list of cocurricular activities. There is a good parent involvement in both EDI and more traditional PTA. They are having new buildings built which I’ve been told will be ready in September.

St Christopher’s is a far superior school, I have relatives at both St. C and St. D, West Wickham.

I have heard that St.D has many levers going to other local preps / states due to the quality of teaching at St.D, they’ve massively overfilled what once was a tiny, nurturing school to the point one of my grandsons classrooms is the headteachers old office and tiny. The current year six class only has 11 children vs 30+ at St Christopher’s.

The facilities do not compare either, St David have no library, no swimming lessons, very limited fixtures due to no school bus. St Christopher’s do swimming lessons at trinity, a gorgeous library and a school bus (as do many state schools)

visit both and see what you think, this is just my intel.

good luck!

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone else is still deciding between the two schools? We’re due to visit both soon again to make our final decision. The new building works at St David’s look impressive on the website, but I’m a bit unsure about those very steep stairs, can’t quite picture my preschooler on them!

I know a previous poster shared some negative comments, but I’d really like to hear more views as we need to make a decision soon-the school is quite keen for us to give a deposit.

Also, could any current St David’s parents share how the sports provision works in practice? I have a child who isn’t really A-team material but loves joining in and trying different sports-is that encouraged?

And lastly, what’s the school community like? Is there an active PTA, parent socials, and events for children and families to get involved in?

Thanks so much for any insights.
