I’m starting at a school who use the accelerated reader programme? Can anyone fill me? How does it work? Have you used it? Do you rate it?

kids have to log the books they’ve read and answer some questions about them to “prove” they’ve read them.
They then are given new “goals” in terms of number of pages/books to be read etc for the next period (either weekly/monthly/half termly).

it might work for reluctant readers who like having a target to aim for in terms of reading, but for kids who enjoy reading for pleasure it’s a bit clunky and frustrating IMO.

It also does periodic reading assessments and then recommends the child a numerical 'range' to read within.

I prefer Bedrock.
AR is ridiculous as able pupils who don't like reading pick 'easy' books to read.
So a pupil could read three books in a session,do the quizzes ,then get the stars for getting correct quizzes.
It all falls down when parents or carers find out their child's reading age is not what they expected because they are reading quick reads.
I'm NOT saying can't read , I'm saying don't like reading. There is a difference.
Bedrock uses AI to assess ability then tailors content to the individual pupil.
