Hi 👋 my daughter age 11 y6 has an EHCP and we’re looking for dyslexia specialist teaching. She has dyslexia & dyscalculia (very severe both) working below for age and lots of time out of school. Her anxiety is high due to unmet needs and bullying. Could anyone recommend school settings that they know may be suitable to explore.
Maple Hayes havnt responded to consult.
Local schools with Sen hubs have said no.
Bredon school have said we can go for a tour.
anything else?

I was going to suggest Bredon. I'd also have a look at Open Days, Events and Private Tours — Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School in Stourbridge. It's a Steiner school, which many dyslexic children find a much easier environment to work in, and because of the small class sizes they can facilitate a 1-1 approach. They sit the usual exams of GCSEs, but they split them across years 10 and 11, which again removes the amount of pressure.

Maple Hayes is a s41 school, so I would chase to look again because you don’t need them to offer a place in order for them to be named.

Similar with the SEN hubs (for most the mainstream school will be named in I and the unit provision included in F) if you think they can meet needs. You don’t need them to agree.

@xmasdealhunter we were at Elmfield previously and it was a disaster. Completely unsuitable. Would not recommend to a child with SEND at all. Great on paper but not in reality!

@perpetualplatespinning unfortunately the hubs just arnt the right fit. Such a mix of children and abilities and they just wouldn’t work.

Oh gosh! My nephew was there a few years ago and had a good experience, I'm sorry you had a poor one. Completely agree with PP though, do chase up Maple again x

Is this for a new EHCP? Existing phase transfer EHCPs should have been finalised naming the secondary placement by the 15th Feb. If your LA hasn’t done that you need to contact the Director of Children’s Services ASAP.

@perpetualplatespinning its for a phase transfer as part of annual review but it’s complicated as we have EOTAS which only started in November so it’s not the usual circumstances.

The amended EHCP naming the secondary placement (or with I blank for EOTAS/EOTIS) should still have been finalised by 15th Feb. Acting urgently now is important in case you need to appeal. You should contact the Director of Children’s Services urgently reminding them of their duty. If that doesn’t work, you need a pre-action letter.

@perpetualplatespinning we hadn’t planned for her to go back into a setting until now. The LA are happy to name any setting really as it will be a huge cost save so it’s not about that it’s just finding an actual setting x

I understand your recent change of plan now means you are going through the review process again, but prior to that, even if the plan was to continue with EOTAS, the phase transfer EHCP should have been finalised by 15th Feb. If that hasn’t happened, you should still pursue this whilst looking for a placement. This is so you can submit an appeal ASAP, just in case. When appealing, you don’t have to state the specific placement when you submit, but given the time pressures, it is important to get in the system just in case, even if you think the LA will name whatever school you find.
