I don't think 51 is late to learn a new subject.

Education isn't just for career purposes, we can study a subject simply because we want to know more about it. It probably won't even enter their heads to ask to be honest.

Now I want to study it!

Don’t think about why you’ve left it ‘so late’. Think about why you’re doing it now. What inspired you? What do you see yourself doing with the qualification?

Colleges LOVE later life learners! DH went to college to learn how to weld in his 40s and had a brilliant time. They won’t ask you why you left it too late, but they might ask why you want to lean about it NOW so have an answer ready for that. And good luck!

They will ask you what you want to get of the course, what has inspired you later in life so think through answers. I would perhaps think about types of cuisine you are passionate about and whether you want to put in time researching recipes etc.

I agree that you need to think about
why you are doing it now.
I also think that this course won’t be a good match for your purposes. It covers the basic info about the industry and big chunk will be spent on issues like health and safety in the restaurant, your duties as a worker, waitressing skills. At least it’s what friend’s daughter told me about her course.
I would google the name and the level to find more detailed description of the course.
You would be probably better off attending specific cooking course e.g Italian cuisine or bread baking. Our local college does evening cooking courses and some big hotels do day courses as well.

Nope, I’d imagine these courses will be very inclusive and encouraging.

they will be wanting you to do well. They will not be wanting to make you feel awkward or uncomfortable.

enjoy!
