does anyone know how i can find out about tutors in the local area - is there an agency that provides such information
my son is 5 and is in a class of 30 - he is falling behind and we just need someone to do basic lang and maths work with him - we've tried but he is not very responsive with us and as i have a young baby time is also very limited
thanks

You can look in the yellow pages- but be warned there is no registration process or anything for tutors and the agency are unlikely to have carried out any checks on the tutor. (I used to work as a tutor- and most agencies are not good). If I was going to have someone tutor my 5 year old I would make sure they were in a room in my house with the door to the room open. Better still I would use someone I know. Is there anyone who could just go through a few workbooks or something?

5 is very young to be starting tutoring- and he will be very tired after a day at school. Is there any chance that the teacher could give him a bit of extra help in school? Alterntively has his sight/hearing/possibility of dyxlexia etc been tested? Having said that it can be very difficult to recognise dyslexia in someone so young, but it might be worth checking out some info on the web.
