What would (should?) the score need to be now, at this stage, for a secure pass on the 11+ being taken in September please?

Impossible to say based on your post as too many variables. Practice can make a big difference. Getting 80% in Bucks was given as a rule of thumb for a pass last year but it’s not that simple. Kent tends to need lower, super selective a different thing.

KnickerlessFlannel · 06/04/2025 13:44

Yeah, agree with the ppl that there's just too.many variables including how much input/practice they're doing and also it is luck of the draw in regards to whether their strong topics come up.

Poonu · 06/04/2025 13:45

Too many variables.
Bucks was extremely low birth rate last year.
Pass rate was 28%
Lots of children take test as a practice for Berkshire which also impacts pass rate.

At this stage if you score 60 and practice consistently you have an excellent chance of passing in answer to your question.

Thankyou all; I hadn’t appreciated or anticipated there were so many factors.

It’s Bucks I am interested in and know the pass rate is 121. Poonu’s last paragraph answers my query 😊

Aim for 65%+ at the moment, practise two to three times a week for 30 minutes on the assessments they'll face and aim to be 80%+ in September.

trying29 · 07/04/2025 10:12

Does anyone know for the Sutton tests?

I’m not sure that’s true. One of my DC had over 70% in the mocks and didn’t pass Bucks last year. The ones getting over 80% by the summer were fine. It also depends on how they handle the test on the day.

I’m not being negative but want to set expectations. It’s a hard test at 60% wasn’t enough to pass based on the cohorts the last couple of years (obviously there’s a long time to practice). There’s a lot of over tutoring

TizerorFizz · 07/04/2025 17:41

Isn’t it age weighted too in Bucks? So not every child needs the same score. Or have they dropped that? DD 1 got 68% in a practice paper but 140 (when it was 141 highest mark) so it’s very difficult to know. No tutoring.

There's not a magic score as such for the Sutton mocks. They are marked on a bell curve and therefore your score depends on the score of the other kids taking that particular mock test, i.e. they are relative not absolute. And most of the kids taking the mocks tend to be high scorers as they have parents who are "on it"/pushy enough to be aware of the mocks and making the practice happen. You can therefore get a "poor" score in the mocks and still pass the real thing - just look at the breakdown of the relatively weaker areas for your child when you get those back, and work on them (and if possible sit more than one mock test)

TizerorFizz · 08/04/2025 08:31

@Poonu The pass rate in Bucks is always higher in the south of the county. Lower in the north. It’s not an overall rate. It’s also skewed by those taking it who aren’t in Bucks at all.

I obviously can't speak for individuals but at a GL cohort meeting they said a score of around 60 in the first set of mocks [Feb/April], if they child worked steadily could be improved to a pass in September (6 months later) in their experience.
To be clear the parent was asking about mocks taken presently not during May or summer.

Hope it all worked out well for your child.

TrojanCat · 09/04/2025 02:14

I am currently managing expectations for the Mocks I'm running in Gloucestershire. I am happy with 50-60% at this stage (my tutees only) because experience tells me this will equate to around 80% for the exam.

trying29 · 09/04/2025 05:35

If a child is scoring highly now - should you ease off practice or keep it up?
