Hello,
is anyone aware of any bus/taxi sharing service from Pinner/Northwood to Westminster School please. School website doesn't say much.

TIA 🙏

It would take ages. Surely the tube is more sensible?

allgood13 · 25/03/2025 14:53

@Geneticsbunny , DS will be in year 4 to travel alone in tube.

Ok that is a bit young! Maybe you will have to take him? Or could you ask the school?

Is this looking ahead at the logistics, gauging whether it is feasible to apply for a place, or have you actually got as far as being offered a place without any idea of how your DS can get to and from the school?

Hey @MarchingFrogs ,thanks for asking. We're currently assessing whether the commute is manageable. WUS remains our top choice due to its impressive track record for Oxbridge selections and excellent results.

Your child is in Y4. It’s a tad early to be taking them on exploratory tours of Oxbridge Colleges.

I think nothing would put a child off learning more than a two hour journey each way to school. Except possibly realising that your parents had effectively put a halt to any opportunity for after school clubs and activities, sports training, orchestra practice, drama club etc - not to mention homework commitments. Plus little opportunity for meeting up with friends in the holidays which might not be an issue for an nine year old but will seriously piss off a fourteen year old. You should be aiming for a well rounded, active, confident child, not one in a state of exhaustion from a soul destroying commute.

Choose a school with a reasonable journey that your child can cope with and encourage them to enjoy and participate in a wide range of extra curricula activities, that’s what makes an Oxbridge candidate.

Oh , and incidentally, if Oxbridge is your choice for your child then steer them into state education, apparently much better chances of a place for children, the London College of Excellence for example, is awarded more Oxbridge and Russell Group places than any other sixth form.

I can't tell if you're joking or if you just got the school name wrong.

My bad. Academy of Excellence.

I'm not sure that the schlep from Pinner to Stratford would be that enjoyable, either, tbh, but probably less tiring for a sixth former than for an 8 year old.
