Online A-levels

My dd gas struggled with some health issues over the past 18 months and it is unlikely she will be able to sit her a-levels this spring.

There are so many options for taking a-levels that I'm asking for some pointers and opinions please.

Her knowledge is fine. She's good with the subjects so she would be looking to do a one year course to go over everything to check for gaps and put her in a position to achieve her potential.

She of course would want to stick with the same exam boards.

Do online providers offer enough of a service that make them worthwhile? I know that great teachers at a school make a huge difference. I'm assuming online providers will just provide material. Do they actually teach or guide much?

6th form colleges don't seem to offer one year courses unless they are independent colleges and there don't seem to be many around me. I'll keep looking.

Thoughts anyone please x

And if online providers can be good, which ones?

Firstly, what subjects? Syllabus options for eg English may change from year to year,

I thought I would be checking exam boards and subject offerings once I have a list of a few providers that people rate highly

There are just hundreds of providers so I thought it best to start off finding providers that people rate highly then find one that offers the right combination

I had a look at this earlier this year and basically I had to google individual subjects and find providers for each and then look at the syllabus they offered.

School seemed a LOT simpler after taking into account trying to sort practicals, finding exam centres and paying all the fees etc.

You might be better asking in the Home Ed section where there will be people more experienced at this. Also because they will know more about dealing with the council as you would fall under Home Ed which then comes with it's own set of rules.

Online schools are more suited to a two year A level pathway. For those, Minerva and Kings InterHigh are the best known in the UK. I'm not sure they would be what you are looking for.

ETA: The providers I looked at only offered that one subject, so you might also get better answers if you specify those. No use recommending you a great Music A level provider if you actually want Physics or Latin. The ones I looked at all provided teaching - it's wasn't just materials.

When I researched this for a student the providers expected the student to find an exam centre.

I have an exam centre. Her current school is happy for her to sit there

That’s good. I’d get that confirmed in writing just in case.

These have been going for awhile

I can recommend Highgrove Online School.
