Considering online school, but worried about lack of accreditation?!

I was really considering an online school for DD because she’s been struggling at her current school, but after reading this article, I’m honestly not so sure anymore.

Apparently, online schools don’t have to be inspected by Ofsted, which is a bit of a shock. I always assumed they would be, especially if they’re getting council funding. I’ve always been a fan of homeschooling, but now I’m wondering if there’s enough oversight in these online schools.

It just feels a bit risky to me if there’s no inspection. How do you know if a school is really up to scratch if no one’s checking?

Anyone else have concerns about this? Or am I overthinking it?

Some independent schools aren't ofsted rated either, there are separate bodies to inspect separate sorts of schools. Kings Interhigh is worth a look, they've got an open event on in a couple of days ᐅ Online School UK | King’s InterHigh online schooling

@xmasdealhunter who are the bodies that inspect online schools if not Ofsted or ISI? I'm looking at various online schools at the moment and feel positively lost in all the claims they all make to be the best. I agree with OP, I thought there would be more rigid regulation for these schools, albeit online. Would you recommend Kings?

@Livelaughleave The government in recent years have introduced the OEAS, which online schools need to register for if they want to be accredited. Kings have applied for OEAS accreditation. They're also a Cambridge International School, which has it's own set of specifications for a school to qualify. This article is pretty good at explaining King’s InterHigh is now Cambridge-accredited | King’s InterHigh. I do recommend Kings, my eldest did a couple of years with them and they were great, their live lessons were really high quality and the support from the SEN team was great.

Another one recommending Kings Inter High

Any to avoid please? I am getting a tonne of spam from various ones now! Have just signed up to Kings open day

@Livelaughleave I don't know of any to avoid, but I'd look to see (normally on their FAQ pages) if they have either applied to be, or make mention to the OEAS requirements. Sofia High is another to look at Sophia High School | A World-Class British Online School

Look for those that have actual online lessons rather than self directed study. My DD could not tolerate college and really struggled at high school. She is late diagnosed ASD. She is doing her A levels and although she did ok in GCSE's she is now flying and I wished I had done it sooner
