What do Universities Mean when they say they don’t allow A-level Resits?

When certain universities claim that they don’t accept A-level resits what do they mean?

Do they mean they won’t accept you if you retake the same A-level subjects you already took exams for at the end of Year 13? Or, do they mean they won’t accept you if you retake any A-level exams at all in a second attempt at A-levels?

For example, imagine if someone studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths and got CCC at the end of Year 13 but then retook those same subjects and got AAA - they wouldn’t be accepted.

But what if that same person had instead took three different A-level subjects such as: Geography, History and Economics and somehow managed to get AAA in one year. That person would have retaken A-levels but not the same subjects. So, would such universities allow them?

I think they mean no retaking exams so in your first example it wouldn’t be accepted. If complete new subjects passed first time it would be ok.

Yeah, resit means the same subject. Else it would just be the ones you got the higher grades in. The person might be a year or two older than others joining Uni but it wouldn't be classed as resit if it's different subjects.

Which universities do not accept resits? My child had offers from multiple RG unis on predicted resit grades.

This nails it

I think you should contact admissions tutors, explain your relatively unique circumstances, and see what they say.
(When is the UCAS deadline? I don't know how long you have to sort your application out.)

@sarahlayton06 you would really be better spending your time researching the detailed admissions policies of the universities you’re interested in and contacting their admissions offices, rather than asking random Mumsnetters to speculate on the answers to your numerous questions. Best of luck with it all.

It used to be the case - I don't know if it still is - that in subjects such as medicine resits weren't accepted, you either got the results first time or that was that. A mate of mine had an offer to read medicine, missed a grade, and was told resitting wouldn't help.
