My brother was searching universities in UK for his research. He was thinking of university of buckingham but found so many comments on how the uni actually doesn't focus on research, especially science field. Is it true?

Has he looked at the REF data?

Obviously it depends on his exact field, sometimes there will be a leading academic in a specific area at somewhere generally not rated so highly.

But on the specific question of Buckingham - curious why he'd be thinking of it. It's unusual in being a private university, as far as I know it doesn't do undergrad science degrees (apart from medical related and computing) let alone research in those areas.

Buckingham is a private university iirc and relatively bew. He might be better focussing on one with a record of research in his specific field and alongside academics who he rates.
