Hi everyone, Please can some one help, as not getting anywhere with google. We live in England and my dd is currently in her last year at Secondary School taking her GCSE's in May 2025. My sl/bl live in Inverness and dd really wants to go to Edinburgh Uni. Dd wants to move in with her Aunt and Uncle and go to sixth form or college to do her A levels, then go on to Uni. Can this be done and how do i fund this?

Why doesn't she just do a levels here and then apply to Edinburgh University? Scottish schools work on a different system and she'd be out of sync re highers and advanced highers. I'm sure someone with more knowledge can advise. She wouldn't count for reduced fees as a Scottish student after two years, I don't think, if that's why you're thinking about it, as she'd be there for study and not ordinarily resident. Could be wrong but some things to consider.

They don't take a levels in Scotland, it's highers/advanced highers. Check residency length required, but even if it's 2 years she will need to be ordinarily resident in Scotland not just for education, this means her being registered at her aunt and uncles for things like child benefit, them being her legal guardians not you ... paying for private school is not enough

The higher syllabus starts at the end of the summer term in Scotland. So she would be doing her GCSEs then. Though you can do highers at college.

Just checked it's 3 years of being ordinary resident and not just for education

The world and his wife want to go to Edinburgh uni. I’d check out a few others!

She just applies to a school in Scotland, same as she would if you relocated. Nothing complicated, except she'd be going to a different qualification system.

Or she could stay where she is do A levels and apply to Edinburgh.

Either way she will need a fee loan. Unless she lives in Scotland for three years before starting. Fewer places for Scottish students though so it's risky.
