Dear Team,
I would like to enquire about my kids one is in year 8 highworth grammar school and the next one will be going to knatchball grammar school in next year,
They both appeared to grammar school and passed.
My husband is scientist and keep moving for his carrier to differnt places in england.
At the moment we live in ashford kent and he will be soon endiing his contract and will find a new job.
The question is if he find a permanat job in any county does my kids needs to appear again to pass the grammar schools tests or they automatically will be transfered to the grammar school in thay county or place without appearing in the test.
Please let me know whatever you think and the rules for it.
I would be greatful to hear from you.
Thank you
Fariha
Best regards

The truth is not many areas outside London/Kent have grammar schools so it will be irrelevant. You will need to apply to whichever school has spaces.

Where do you think it’s likely you’ll move to?

I think what you'd need to do is check the website of the specific school for 'In Year Admissions', which should give details about how and when you can apply other than the normal year 7 and 12 entries. I think they typically would have their own admissions tests appropriate for the relevant age.

They may well not have any spaces, these typically only open up if one of their pupils moves or transfers out.

Yes, you would need to apply for a school place in your new location which may or may not have grammar schools. If they do, each will have its own criteria for in year admission so you would need to look up the criteria for each individual school you are interested in.

We're in Bexley and a lot of children locally do Bexley and Kent tests. Even here, where those schools aren't that far from each other, the test results aren't generally transferable from one borough to the other. It really varies wildly.

But as others have said the biggest barrier, even if there are grammar schools where you're moving, is that there's unlikely to be spaces available anyway so your child would probably have to sit a test and then go on the waiting list according to whatever the criteria are.

They won't automatically move to a new grammar school. There will likely be 1 or 2 places a year at most, often none, so unfortunately it will be tricky to get a place at another grammar school.
