GHS – fun learning activities to help with the 4+ assessment

Hi there. Does anyone know how many pupils are selected for reception at Guildford High School, and how many generally apply for a place? I don’t believe in tutoring at such a young age. I want to teach my child through play and fun activities. Are there any that you’d recommend? What would a child be expected to be able to do to give them a chance of performing well at these assessments? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Habs assessment consisted of colouring in a butterfly, writing their name, building Lego, making food out of play dough, counting and generally talking to the teachers. Your child needs to be confident in talking to adults they don’t know. One local school expects each child to leave their carer and go off with a teacher. If they don’t, that’s it.

@Rocknrollstar That sounds OK. Those are the types of activities I do with DD already. I couldn’t imagine trying to get her to read and write. She’s under 2-years-old. Did your DD enjoy her experience, or did she find it challenging? I would imagine this type of approach would suit children who have already experienced nursery or similar.
