There are similar threads in the skiing forum already.

As a guide he’ll need a warm coat and salopettes. Ideally the coat will have a snow skirt and pocket in the arm for a lift pass
ski socks (not normal ones as they’ll rub) most people wear them for a couple of days each!
thermal tops and bottoms - same real
as with the socks
a fleece top or two
a neck buff
gloves (2 pairs are ideal - they get sweaty so one can be drying while they do their evening activities)
Boots suitable for wearing in the snow
goggles
Suncream and lip sunblock

i assume helmets will be provided

You’ll no doubt get this list from school;

Salopettes
Ski Jacket (lightweight)
Sunglasses
Ski Goggles
Thermal Under top
Ski socks at least x2 pairs (must be ski socks!)
Waterproof gloves
Midlayerjumper/fleece
Sunscreen (mandatory)
Water bottle

Optional ski clothing/ Equipment

Snood/ scarf/ face protector
Thermal Leggings
Wooly hat
Rucksack/ day bag
Lip balm
Sunglasses strap
Head/ hairband
Weather appropriate shoes
Wooly gloves

Lidl and Aldi have their stock in, good for basics like base layers.

EmotionalSupportPotato · 24/11/2024 20:16

Ask the school. I'm amazed they haven't given you this info already.

TokyoSushi · 24/11/2024 20:16

Agree that Aldi & Lidl are great for basic stuff, then either Decathlon or Vinted for the rest.

The meetings mid December and I just need to be organised especially with Christmas round the corner

I guess you will receive a list then. Some sports kit like skins or fleeces can be used underneath a waterproof/windproof jacket and ski trousers.

BERB24 · 24/11/2024 20:51

I don’t know if this is still the case but when I was at school you had the option to hire ski clothing from a company - seemed like a good option - though a ski jacket is always useful to have. TK Maxx always have great bargains!

I was about to say it's in Aldi special buys this week.

Duckinglunacy · 24/11/2024 20:56

I’d keep an eye on Vinted, can get some bargains on there. The everything else from decathlon. I like a clean baselayer every day.

Snow boots/shoes with good tread for when they are not skiing.

Everyday wear (winter grade) for when they are not skiing.

Lip salve with SPF.

Moisturiser.
Boiled sweets for sucking when in ski lift.
Bobble hat.

Loopy9 · 24/11/2024 21:31

2 base layers would be enough.. if budget was no option I’d go for 3

eBay and Facebook also good for 2nd hand ski items

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/11/2024 21:31

Gemkendall · 24/11/2024 20:26

A minimum of 2. If they’re not flying you won’t have a weight restriction so could go for more.

i’d go for 2 merino wool ones rather than more synthetic ones.

Mountain Warehouse have a 60% Black Friday deal on EVERYTHING until the end of the end of the week. Lots of kids ski & winter gear is available.

Hijacking the thread, but I just wonder, do school ski trips cater to different level of skiing abilities, or are they usually geared to less experienced skiers?

DoverWight · 25/11/2024 17:28

The trips my kids went on did separate instructors groups by ability.

They have several groups of different abilities with different instructors. It’s amazing how much progress they all make though.

Snoopey · 25/11/2024 23:11

My kids went last year. Skis, Ski boots, Poles and Helmets hire were included in the trip price (double check with your school). I bought 3x base layers (trousers and long sleeve tops) - Go Outdoors had twin packs which worked out well price wise (also got blue light discount at the time!) Other stuff was Aldi and Decathlon.

Avatartar · 25/11/2024 23:24

Came on to say mountain warehouse merino wool base layers are great. Try wool socks too. You smell less sweaty in wool
