Help on Reception

Hi Guys - I'm new to this so please bear with me. I moved into a neighbourhood two years back and there's a school I always wanted my son to go too. However, both schools in our area have the same name and just as I would do, I applied to the wrong school. I went back and forth with the council throughout the summer and they regularly kept me up to date with his position and placement in the new school. The school term started and my son had to start in the school I didn't want him to go too, for no other reason other than it wasn't on our choices. So, he started that school then 4 days in we got the call that he's been given a place in the other school. Now- I'm torn between do I keep him where he is now as we can walk, they have bfast club etc or, do I accept the place at the school we wanted ? We can walk there as well but it's a bit further out. School 1 is a much larger reception and more diverse school. School 2 is a smaller class setting, not very diverse and no bfast club so had to get a childminder to drop him off to school. I've never been so in between minds on what to do about anything and it's driving me nuts. Any help or suggestions please are welcomed :)

School 1 sounds ideal - I don’t understand what the benefit of moving him would be? Small doesn’t mean better, it can also mean a smaller friendship pool and less resource as fewer pupils. Nothing in your post suggests it is better and therefore you should move. What did you think was better about it?

Not named as a preference because you'd looked at all the schools within a reasonable distance / where the oversubscription criteria meant that it was likely you would get a place, and found aspects of tbis one which concerned you to the point that even the proximity didnt cut it? Then before deciding, take a deep breath and have a little think about why you decided not to apply for a place at the school, and does the reality thus far at all support your reasoning?

Or... Not named, because you just went for three / four schools which were just 'desirable' / 'where you should want your DC to go', without seriously considering whether they and your DC were a good fit for each other (or for you, if there were facilities that actually likely to be important in facilitating your work etc)? Then as you appear to have identified how much the 'unwanted' school does actually offer, stick with that.
