My 14yo needs to improve his handwriting. He says he wants to

I've bought him handwriting paper and I have gone through his work to show ehat he does that is unclear but he doesn't use it to practice.

What else could I try?

Is it inspiration he needs? Some of these guys do cool and beautiful stuff that might appeal

otherwise giving him some exercises based on practical things might work, twinkl has a teen handwriting lesson pack that includes job application, a pitch for a video game etc

Does he write too fast? It's very handy to write quickly and easy to get used to it, so it might be that he just needs to slow down a lot before he gets back up to speed. At 14 he will be in a lot of habits that will be difficult to get out of. We are a family of extremely poor writers - me, dh, dd and ds - so I speak with a lot of sympathy as it's hard to change. I actually wish I'd pushed for ds to use a laptop in exams because of his poor handwriting!

The problem comes from living for two years in Spain where they form the letters differently so his handwriting is a mix of the two. We've had a go sporadically but we need to make a new effort now.

Thank you for those ideas. I've got access to twinkl so I'll start there.

@MerylSqueak

Could you go to a shop which stocks a good range of pens, so that he can browse what there is? He may find writing easier if he has chosen a pen which feels like a nice fit in his hand.

He's not left-handed, is he? Am asking because I know that this can make writing difficult for some people.

Thanks for that. He's not left handed, no. He's very much taking the line that it will all be alright...

I've had a look to see what is available in books.

Would he try this one?

There are more books available than I expected! If this one doesn't suit, there are lots of others which he might prefer.

That looks good. He might be a bit sparky about it but it looks like he could fo one a day, which is what he needs. Thanks.
