I have 5 children and my youngest has just started year 6. I feel like her attainment is markedly lower than her siblings at her age. Lockdown learning was all online and she never really engaged. I feel guilty because i feel partly responsible for where she is right now, i definitely could have done more during Lockdown. Does anyone else notice the effects of lockdown on their year 5/6 child. Maybe teachers could comment too.

Not sure what I'm actually looking for by posting....maybe comfort in knowing i'm not alone.

I have 6 kids, they are ALL different my youngest is the year above yours and easily the most academically able of all of them (119 scores in SATS)
I think it's hard not to compare the, but you shouldn't..

Its true, I should'nt compare, but I find myself constantly worrying whether I put enough time into her as i did with the others. I should just accept that they're all different rather than trying to pin point the reasons why. Thank you xx

My motto is everything is fixable!
You may be right, you might not be. But it’s never too late. Start putting some extra time in now and see what happens.

Every child is different. Lockdown did not seem to affect my year 6 boy or year 8 girl. They are doing well. We did not do much work during either. Gave up mostly as, had a newborn during so was not bothered about the very brief online sessions. It was more stress than what it was worth. Instead, allowed them to play. I was in survival mode. Trying to cope with a new baby and some health issues that came up when having the baby. School work got tossed out the window for that time. But they played and read. They were fine. DD and DS GDS for all so not issues with learning when they returned.

Thank you for that, you're absolutely right. I can do something about it now.

You can’t turn them into something they’re not! But you can get the best out of them
Good luck, make it fun
