Starting school - Mummy guilt

I feel like I'm the only parent in the world who is unable to do any school drop-offs or pick-ups due to work. I feel such mum guilt and worry what the other parents may think. My mum will be doing the majority with my husband doing some when he can.
Please tell me I'm not alone? 😞

Hi

Congratulations first for helping your child reach school age - you are a star.

Secondly, I get the mum guilt. I'm starting work ft and I won't be dropping off my child to nursery etc either. It sucks but we know if it wasn't this reason, we'd feel guilty some other way - that's just us mums 😕

I hope you both do well.
Best wishes

Each school will be different but at my sons school, there are many grandparents doing drop offs and pick-ups. My son goes with a childminder 4 days a week to and from school. Many of his friends go to breakfast club and after school club. There are a few parents who do both drop offs and pick ups but maybe around 10 out of a class of 30. They are parents who either work shifts or WFH with flexi-time.

Mum guilt will come and go but honestly don’t beat yourself up. There will be lots of working parents and different family situations.

Of course you're not alone. When my dd was primary age there were lots of grandparents doing the school runs, quite a few dads. Then breakfast/after school clubs... it's really not going to be all the other mums there at once.

You're a mum, not superwoman! You need to go work and can't be in two places at once. No need to feel guilty about that!Smile

Don't worry, we all have to what we must to pay the bills, even if that means missing out important life events.

Aw thanks all. I'm sad I'm going to miss her very first day too but nothing I can do. Daddy is taking her in though so I know she will love that ❤️

What on earth makes you think you are the only one ? Confused

I suspect that far more parents of Primary aged dc WOTH than don't.

If it's not this you will find something else to choose to be guilty of, loads of people do it it's not new

You’re not the only one OP. I’m really lucky that as a shift worker I’ll be able to the some but the majority of my friends are either teachers or have 8-4/9-5 jobs and will be relying on grandparents and childminders for pick ups and drop offs.
