I think it would be very useful for many of us to know what other schools are planning, but it's difficult pull this info out from the other thread as it became full of debate!

Be great if people could just post along these lines - eg

'15 percent rise from Jan '25 - London girls private'

'8 percent rise from September '24, rising to 12 percent in January '25 - North East boys private' - or whatever.

Our school (London co-ed) is raising fees by 4 percent in September. No info yet on what they will do from January '25!

thanks

Why feel the need to comment then ffs?

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 25/08/2024 15:24

Because the OP asked what other schools were doing and I replied.

Most can't comment yet about January. Fees will have been released in April for Sept without VAT and until legislation is passed most schools won't know for certain. Some will be trying to pre-empt but personally I think that's foolish

Oh bore off, it is clear that the thread is about private schools. Why jump on a thread just to be goady? It isn't about state schools, you don't have kids in private schools so surely it's just a waste of your time and energy to post pointless goady comments?

How silly. Not sure what you were trying to achieve 🤔

dietcokewithice · 25/08/2024 15:30

@twistyizzy - I know a few that have posted plans already -

9 percent from Jan '25 - London boys

11 percent from Jan '25 - Home counties co-ed

Why don’t you just get a life, honestly?

SheilaFentiman · 25/08/2024 15:36

Assume will hear v soon given the one term notice required - Placemarking to post then!

Are they increases in respect of the VAT addition or just normal increases?

In west mids co-Ed day school and increased 6.5% from September but haven’t announced what’s happening in January. They increased them by 9% last summer too 🥴

dietcokewithice · 25/08/2024 15:41

@NeverHadHaveHas - yes, these are rises that indicate what parents will pay when the 20 percent VAT is added on by the government.

So where someone posts 'rise of 11 percent', it would mean the parents will pay 11 percent more than they are now, but the school will find ways to fund the remaining 9 percent. Hope that makes sense.

Our school was always planning to raise fees by 4 percent in September - we were told this pre-election.

@twistyizzy - do you think some schools are holding off on announcing January plans because they think/hope legislation might not go through?

Yes and also waiting to read the fine print

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 25/08/2024 15:46

Where does it say independent/private schools? Nowhere. The OP asked for the % and type of school and I answered.

Honestly, just drop it because you're making yourself look more and more ridiculous with each comment.

You’re really not coming across as witty or clever if that’s what you’re aiming for.

dietcokewithice · 25/08/2024 15:55

@MyTattooIsBetterThanYours - title says ‘vat on fees’. State schools don’t charge fees, they are free - I credit people on this forum with the intelligence to know that 😂

4% increase from Sep, then 15% on the top from Jan. London prep.

5% from Sep, then 9% from Jan, London boys secondary.

May I suggest we just ignore posters like MyTatoo? they ruined my thread on exactly the same topic and I think it's still useful for PS parents to get insight, better not to feed them with any responses at all.

Have any of the schools who have announced Jan increases indicated whether they will phase in the VAT up to the full 20%, or is that the maximum amount they intend to pass on?

missmardypants · 25/08/2024 16:05

15.2% Home Counties, selective entry secondary.

IAmFlyingThisPlane · 25/08/2024 16:06

The private school near my old home just announced that it is closing permenantly because of increased costs incl VAT.

(south west Scotland)

dietcokewithice · 25/08/2024 16:08

@nearlylovemyusername - thanks. Do you mean the January increases are on top of the September increases? So from next Jan, the prep fees will be 19 percent more than they were in January ‘24?

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 25/08/2024 16:08

All the schools my children attended have the same cost now as they did then.

Nothing.

stillavid · 25/08/2024 16:10

Neither of schools my DC attend in the south west - one co-ed day and one co-ed full boarding have said yet what they will do in January. But hefty increases of up to 9% in September.

I wonder if the schools that do add VAT in January but haven't confirmed by how much yet will waive the terms notice??

nearlylovemyusername · 25/08/2024 16:13

@dietcokewithice yes, that's correct. And very sad - the school is absolutely fantastic, cater for wide range of abilities but achieve astonishing outcomes, they were worth every penny despite the fees nearly killed me. I'm not sure how they will stay afloat.
