Excluded from school until risk assessment done.

My son is 15 and currently in therapy for anxiety, self harm and suicidal thoughts. I called the school guidance teacher today because he didn’t get the results he needed for his chosen highers so they have put him to resist a class that caused him the majority of the anxiety last year which led to the spiral. Teacher was less than sympathetic so I explained my concerns about him spiraling again after all the work that’s been done over the last few months and feared all progress would be lost. Teacher said she wasn’t aware of self harm or suicide thoughts previously so he would need to be kept at home until a risk assessment was done next week! Is this normal? He’s been back a week and stayed all day today after they knew so I don’t understand the logic of keeping him off to sit at home and get more anxious. He’s never harmed himself in school, they knew about the anxiety but the school therapist has over 12 month waiting list so couldn’t offer any help. I really don’t think excluding him for two days is in his best interests. Help! What can I do. We are in Scotland.

@debmister

I didn't want your post to go unanswered, OP.

I've just been reading up on the situation in Scotland and it sounds as though there would be input from the local authority under the ASL Act.

I'm not sure who would advise on this at your local borough.

Hopefully another poster will have better advice later.
