Secondary School coats

Following from the very useful backpack thread, what autumn weight jackets/coats have you found for your DC?

my DD’s going into Y7 and the school doesn’t have much cover for when it rains and their not allowed inside at break/lunch so I’m looking for a decent waterproof hip length type jacket that will do for the cooler autumn days. I think a pac a Mac type would be too thin so something with a thin lining.

she loves her flowery rain Mac but can well imagine her getting picked on for wearing that in the new school.

They all have north face at dc’s secondary. Or nothing. Mostly nothing.

North face black puffa jacket or nothing at DD's school (unfortunately).

Also strange a trend of wearing a second (branded) hoodie over school jumper? They are allowed as long as they take it off for lessons because "it's a coat" so technically is within school uniform rules 😂

Dd and ds both have a generic coat off Amazon (acme projects) (one black one dark blue). Might depend on your catchment, but no one really cares, and coats don't seem to get worn much at school, just shoved in the bag, and put on for walk home from bus but only if it's hammering it down. The coats are used outside of school, and are waterproof instead of shower proof.
If not worth breaking the bank for a label, NF doesn't seem as popular as it once was as the kids school, RAB is the coat quite a few kids have now, but neither dd or ds have ever had any problems wearing their jackets, and I'm not paying £££ for a coat, which will get grown out of in a year or two!

Secondary school children are pretty much allergic to coats. Does the uniform include a jumper and a blazer? With many layers I think a thin waterproof is fine to be honest and also cheap - your daughter can then see what's the in coat for winter (if there is one)

Pretty much nothing here.

If you do go with a coat, think about where it will go when she is at school (particularly if wet).
At my DC's school they can't wear coats in school, nor can they carry them about and the lockers are pretty small. There is also a "coat room" but no one likes to use it.

You're best bet is to ask locally and see what everyone else does. I'm finding it very odd that the school expects students to go out in the rain at breaks/lunches - are you sure this is fact and not preference?

hi, my daughter is 14, in y9, she wears zavetti canada, and has since y7, she has always been bullied, since reception, and her coat makes her feel safe, in a way, iykwim, and she also has a handbag, if she is like my daughter, she will say yes to any, but really all the girls have smallish ones, like this, and they bully her for having a "big" bag, when it isnt actually big, it is just shaped. the pictures below are the ones most people wear, and that is the style, oh and if she wears makeup, i would tell her not to wear eyeshadow, as it just gives kids another reason to take the mick, like they do to my dd<3

Have a look what other kids wear. At ours virtually none wear a coat ever. Even when freezing & wet
