Apprenticeship for working mum!

I currently work 3 days a week and my son is in nursery on those days. He will be starting school September 2025
I'm really keen to up-skill and do a training/apprenticeship role as I feel my current job will not progress further.
Is it possible to do an apprenticeship on a part time basis? And then around school hours? I appreciate jobs generally want people there 9-5pm but was hoping there may be flexible learning for people like me.
Has anyone looked into this or had a similar experience??

If it makes a difference, The apprenticeship is in Site management abd FYI my partner (Dad) work away and sporadic hours so I can't rely on him set days etc!

TIA 🙂

You want part time, apprenticeship to fit around school hours and you lack reliable support from your dp should you need to accommodate work Eg early site visit

can you pay for reliable child care allow you to have a routine and be present and flexible

you need a childcare routine that fits around your new role and allows you to work & study

Realistically you need to be flexible and arrange ft childcare to allow you to pursue apprenticeship. You got to fit around work to facilitate the career change. I cannot think of a role that’ll be that accommodating to your needs

Ahh my error you posted in July- didn’t see that initially

IMO get ft childcare to fit around a ft apprenticeship
it’s a shared family cost to support career
spend on childcare to support your development

I am doing my apprenticeship through work , part of the requirements to take the apprenticeship is you work full time think the hours were set as 30 minimum a week. Work also had to give me 6 hours a week self study during work time. You also need to have a GCSE grade c/4 or above in English and maths . If you did not have them you would be expected to take and pass a functional skills level 2 in English and maths before you could take your end point assessment, can you do a apprenticeship through your current employer? Increase your hours there?

@MumaJo this information about flexi-job apprenticeships might be helpful: www.gov.uk/government/publications/flexi-job-apprenticeships

That appears to be short term time limited contracts eg seasonal but not necessarily part time or school hours only. Onus is on the apprentice to arrange ongoing and new job placement

Useful For a worker in an industry with time limited contracts eg theatre (work a specific play) to allow transferable skills & flexibility.

That doesn’t necessarily equate to part time within school hours with proviso that she has no support from partner
