Hi my daughter was overlooked slightly in primary and when she did her SATs in year 6 her English reading scaled score was low at 96 but now in year 8 the same scaled score is 86 and she has had reading interventions as well over the last 2 years but her score has gone worse has anyone had any experience of this etc? Thanks

Oh bless you ( and her) is she dyslexic do you think ? Was she coached for SATS ?

Unfortunately educational differences do become more pronouced over time.

She will have had a huge amount of intense input to try and get her to 100 for her sats.

Most primary schools do a lot of intensive work before SATS as it is a judgement of the school. Therefore it may have been this intense support that enabled her to gain the score that she did.

Ok thank you everyone she has difficulty understanding in a lot of different lessons but mainly English she needs work explaining to her a few times until she understands, even in normal day to day life she has to have things explained to her repeatedly, school have just put her on the ASD pathway as she seems to have more signs visible as she is getting older

Schools don’t do sats in y8 - they’ll be totally different tests. If it’s something like NGRT for example it’s not at all connected to sats and has its own scale.

not to say there hasn’t been a stagnation in her outcome but you can’t really compare like that.

what does she read at home? Primary reading is very intensive but often drops off a cliff when it’s not tracked and promoted at every opportunity at secondary in the same way

Ok thank you she struggles reading and because of this she doesn't really enjoy it she has tinted screens as she has Irlens syndrome so that does hinder slightly and she tends to pronounce some words incorrectly
