What care instructions did you get from the hospital? Usually with a finger or toe they just strap it up and you carry on pretty much as normal. He can't do PE and ask for a laptop if it is his writing hand.

How old is your son? And did anyone (adult at school) actually know he'd hurt his finger?

I took him to Newham general hospital.and they did put his finger in little strap but told me royal London hospital will call you from plaster team

Yes he went to medical room and lady put ice pack on his finger and told him to go and play.
She said that time he only had little bit swelling but later on my said did show his finger to his class teacher and told her i hurt my self .

I broke my finger playing netball a few weeks back. Went to minor injuries, where they put it in a mullet splint. You can buy them for about £3.I had a follow up appointment at the fracture clinic 4 weeks later. Was told to wear the splint for another 2 weeks, then start trying to move it. Was given a sheet with exercises on it.
My finger is still a bit sore at times, but I'm now back playing netball which is the main thing for me

I broke my finger and although initially it was strapped the hospital called the next day for it to be pinned. So you do need to follow up.

I never even considered taking my son to an and e when he recently hurt his finger. It was very swollen and the school had given him an ice pack. I’d be annoyed the school didn’t at least do that.
I just buddy taped it up with a wee pad in between fingers and bandaged round it for a bit of protection. It went all sorts of colours and was a bit swollen for a week but is fine now.

Of course you need to take finger injuries to A&E - certain fractures might look just like swelling initially but need intervention to avoid long term damage.

Newham probably doesn’t have a hand trauma clinic so you’ve been referred to the tertiary centre - in my experience the referral process between hospitals out of hours can sometimes go wrong so you can try calling them up to check the referral def went through as a trauma and not a GP referral (if you were given the appt only after chasing up via GP) If you do then also check they’ve got the right contact details for you as sometimes these type of clinics call you for triage/appointments as they move quickly.
