Level 4 counselling - should I bother?

I have just finished level 3 after level 2 last year. Now trying desperately to get a place for level 4. Places are limited and competition is tough. Had a quite humiliating interview recently trying to prove to 2 tutors that I am worth a place on their course - a very superior gatekeeping vibe off them.

I am wondering should I even bother. The money and time I will have to sink into it and for what? You can't get a job anyway, from what I can tell.

I think maybe pride is driving me on, getting the validation that I am viewed as good enough? I feel like I can't see the wood for the trees. If I stop then I just go back to nothing after 2 years of study. I can't find anything else I really want to do right now.

Anyone had a similar experience?

what is your plan if you don’t?

do you actually intend on becoming a counsellor?

have you found yourself struggling with the course Op?

Honestly I think you need a clear career plan. You’re right that it is really hard to get a job, especially in the early days while you’re building up your hours for accreditation. So you really need to be committed to the long term if you’re going to go for level 4. But your plan should be the decider, not whether the attitude of the level 4 interviewers was crappy.

they want a high calibre of student capable of dealing with the rigours of the next stage

I didn't train in England so can't compare that part but I am a qualified counsellor and it has been the best thing I ever did. I love my job and I work in the private sector so yes you can get work from it if you're willing to put in a lot of hard work and effort initially. It has been worth every moment for me but it is a case of each to their own. I am sorry you've experienced what seemed to be gatekeeping, there should be no place for that kind of attitude as far as I'm concerned. Good luck in your journey.

Quite the opposite, I have a masters so I am looking forward to level 4 being more of a challenge.

I understand they need high calibre of student but their line of questioning was ridiculous tbh.

in what way ridiculous?I am guessing you don’t have a high regard for them anyway?

so why seemingly resigned to fact you won’t get a place

what’s your plan if you don’t?

I wouldn't bother with level 4 training as SCoPEd is in the process of devaluing it and it's never been particularly well thought of anyway.

Have you looked into post grad qualification routes?
