What are they teaching our children?!

The government has begun to make changes to policies regarding schools teaching gender identity ideology but their focus is on the PSHE curriculum, and they need to look at other areas of the curriculum too!

Here is an example of a book used in literacy schemes across the UK which introduces primary aged children to the concept of being non-binary: 'neither a boy or a girl'. When learning to read with expression, and write with punctuation and grammar, our children are being taught this!!

We are heading for a generation of very confused children if this is allowed to continue.

Mumsnet, can we be a voice to stop this?

The Literacy Shed and The Literacy Tree are just 2 primary school literacy schemes which promote the use of books which include themes of sexuality and gender ideology.

You’re right, this absolutely has to be stopped. It’s sickening what they are doing.

Schools use schemes (like companies) to provide their books which literacy lessons are based on. Most schemes used in the uk have books which have LGBT themes in their list. They say their aim is to provide children with a true reflection of todays society eg books with characters with 2 mums etc. This is one thing.. and is debatable in itself. However, books which introduce the concept that a child can be born in the wrong body is another level!!

Should literacy schemes be allowed to include books with LGBT themes at all?
What's wrong with learning to read and write through innocent Roald Dahl books, or The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe?!

My advice: check each term what books her class is using for literacy and class story time. Also, don't let her use social media - even if she begs and makes life difficult - don't let her!!

Most schools in the UK use literacy schemes which contain these materials.

And there is no way of parents objecting to this? How can someone find out if the school uses these material? It seems literacy shed has a lot of good material, it's a matter of what the teacher chooses to use? Sorry we are not in the uk at the moment but considering to move back for 11plus.

The problem is these terms are everywhere. Not just in school books. My daughter picked up one term from a family show we watched together. I have explained numerous times to her that non binary is mental illness. I will tell her the same thing about Trans too as that is what they are. because she is autistic I worry she will be led down this road when she no longer fits in with her peer group.

You've shown your true colours here OP. How is it "debatable" to have a character with 2 mums?

Don't dress up your homophobic views as 'caring about the kids'

The literacy shed has loads of fantastic resources and hooks for writing. The literacy tree scheme is one of the best I've used in terms of weaving discrete grammar teaching into a text based program of study. With both companies, it is 100% the choice of the teacher/school which books to choose. I have never been in a school that teaches children to be non-binary. That is pure scaremongering.
