Due to the possible strike action?

Mine is.

ellceeell · 06/04/2008 11:22

don't know - there was no decision by last Friday and we are now closed for 2 weeks for the Easter hols. So the first we might hear will be the 21st - bit short notice

ArcticRoll · 06/04/2008 11:24

My dc's school will be closed.

SoupSledgon · 06/04/2008 11:25

At DSs school, about half the classes are shut, the others are taught by different union members. Both DSs are in

whoops · 06/04/2008 11:27

We had a note saying the Governors had decided to close the school due for health and safety reasons

Our head put a note on the staff room noticeboard asking anyone who was going to strike to let her know, but I'm not sure how many did.
But the newsletter I printed on Friday (last day of term) is advertising a cake sale on the 24th, so I'd guess we're planning to be open

paddingtonbear1 · 06/04/2008 11:42

I haven't heard yet. dd goes back to school tomorrow after the Easter break. If they are going to close I guess we will get a letter?

Rachmumoftwo · 06/04/2008 11:50

What about teachers not with the NUT? Are other unions joining the strike? Or will those teachers go in?

Threadworm · 06/04/2008 11:51

DS1's is planning to close.

hercules1 · 06/04/2008 11:57

If you are not striking you still go to work but cannot cover your absent colleagues classes. If you dont go in then it will be seen that you are supporting the strike so will not get paid.

TotalChaos · 06/04/2008 11:59

governors still haven't decided yet.

mrz · 06/04/2008 12:25

We had an email on Friday from the LA saying to inform parents but it was a training day and now on holiday for two weeks so they won't be told until we go back

coppertop · 06/04/2008 12:27

No idea yet. It's still the holidays here so presumably we'll find out when they go back to school next week.

unknownrebelbang · 06/04/2008 13:27

Don't know. I think staff at the primary are in a different union, but not sure about the secondary school.

The secondary was closed for six days three years ago due to strike action (localised dispute concerning some members of staff) but can't remember which union was involved in that.

Squirtle · 06/04/2008 13:33

our school has three classes open (non NUT members, but others closed. Easier to do in Primary where (mostly) people only teach 1 class per day.

oldcrock · 06/04/2008 13:40

dd2's school sent home a note warning of possible closure as most of the teachers are NUT and it is a special school, so need high staff coverage to open. Will get final decision when back after Easter holidays. No info at all from dd1's school yet.

MrsWeasley · 06/04/2008 13:53

we will be told on the 22/4

Rachmumoftwo · 06/04/2008 14:50

I know they have a right to strike, and can see why they may want to, but it is a pain in the bum. I may have to cancel a trip to London which is part of my teacher training (EAL experience we don't get in Somerset), just because of childcare, or pay £70 to put the girls into the local nursery. I wonder if I can bill the NUT?

TheFallenMadonna · 06/04/2008 14:55

Not much point if it wasn't a pain in the bum though really...

purpleduck · 06/04/2008 15:04

Our school is affected, but only certain years (due to a reliance on supply staff i think?)
This means ds's class is cancelled, but dd's isn't

Methinks they will both stay home

mrz · 06/04/2008 15:31

Some classes are unaffected because not all teachers are in the NUT. Supply staff aren't allowed to cover for striking teachers.

Hallgerda · 06/04/2008 18:08

DS2 and DS3's primary school will be closing if the strike goes ahead.
