Concerns about headteacher complaint

After Easter I was planning on making a complaint to Governors about my sons primary headteacher. I know the complaints process and outcome I want. I'm not baying for blood but fed up of the HT trying to flex his muscles and overrule me and yesterday was the final straw. I mentioned to my friend last night over wine that I was planning on making a formal complaint and she's now put me off as she says I'm asking for trouble as the HT will likely treat both me and my DS worse in retaliation.

Would you make a complaint still with the fear of DS being bullied by the HT? It never crossed my mind that the HT could become worse if challenged!

Need more info. It's hard to comment on whether or not you should complain without examples and what the final straw was.

LIZS · 16/03/2024 18:31

If the complaint can wait, is it really worth making?

rollerblind · 16/03/2024 18:31

Is it bad enough that you would consider moving your child out of that school?

SnappyMcMuffin · 16/03/2024 18:58

Absolutely dependent on context! He may be an arsehole .. you may be an arsehole ... but with this little info it's hard to advise!

StrawberryTartIet · 16/03/2024 19:13

It's not really advice about whether to make a complaint or nor I'm asking for because I haven't given the details. It's more of whether I am being silly worrying that will be repercussions for making a complaint.

I think when you complain about anything at all there could be a consequence. That's one of the reasons people don't report crimes for example. Or object to a neighbour's planning permission.

Hadalifeonce · 16/03/2024 19:19

It truly depends on the HT, and what the complaint is about. I had to mediate a complaint against an HT once, the facts were discussed calmly and witness statements were read.
A plan moving forward was agreed with the parents and the school.

PaperDoIIs · 16/03/2024 19:54

It depends on the HT and the circumstances of the complaint.

Someone who is arrogant,a bully ,petty , stubborn, thinks they're always right , has something against you/your child etc. is very likely to react badly . Someone who is normally level headed, decent and fair will stay professional even is the personal relationship sours.

Whenever the head sees you, and possibly your child, they will remember that you complained - that’s just human nature. It should not make any material difference At All but you can’t expect the HT not to think about it.

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 16/03/2024 20:06

What's happening that he wants to 'overrule' you? Are you acting outside of the usual expectations/ boundaries of the school?

pedagreed · 17/03/2024 13:10

"fed up of the HT trying to flex his muscles and overrule me and yesterday was the final straw"

So, let me guess, you've told your child they don't need to follow a school rule, and the Head has told them that they do?

WASZPy · 17/03/2024 18:35

Isn't calling the shots about rules his job rather than yours?

ilovebreadsauce · 17/03/2024 18:40

It is impossible to advise without knowing the nature of the event and how reasonable it is.
Of course it nay have a knock on effect, tge ht is only human.

HT covering PE lesson, made DS do PE despite note sent in and medical evidence provided

Well, if that was my son, I would politely write to the Head to tell him I was concerned about what had happened and ask him to confirm it won't happen again.

But has it happened multiple times?

Bluepetergarden · 18/03/2024 20:47

What’s the medical evidence ?

LIZS · 18/03/2024 20:50

Was there a consequence?

Crazycrazylady · 18/03/2024 20:57

Honestly if that's the nature of the complaint you are absolutely at nothing. The governors will not be interested in that level of complInt - and yes by trying to go straight to governors they won't take more significant complaints seriously.
