We use in primary school, my ds1 and ds3 have both used it, starting in Y3. The instructions for doing it are pretty clear, just read the left hand page for the instructions for the corresponding right hand page of exercises. It is to help her reading.

They use it in my dd's primary , I thought it was suitable from 7+

Have you looked at the toe by toe website?

My DS did the spelling version Stareway to Spelling and it was very helpfull.

yes suitable for primary. You need to do it at least 4 times a week.

The school sent it home for you to do with her, and you didn't already know she was doing it?

It might be worth making an appointment with the school, as their communication could do with being a bit better.

As Loshad said, just read the instructions on the left, and ask your DD to do the exercises on the right.

right ok thanks !had a look and sounds easy now youve explained.she says 3 ticks in just one coloumb means she can move on a page is that right?
yep schools communication is fantastic as usual!

I have used it with primary age DS and would highly recommend it.It worked best with my DS because we used it everyday but he knew that it was going to be a short session.

You have to get 3 ticks in a row for each word/sound read. So if after two ticks she misreads it, you have to dot it and start again in getting 3 ticks. You can only do each exercise once a day, so no option to rush and read a word 3 times to get 3 ticks in one go.

I go into ds's junior school twice a week and pull children out of their class (not literally) to do 10 minutes of Toe by Toe with them.
In our school it is used mainly for the children with reading difficulties and those diagnosed with dyslexia.
But I think it could benefit anyone who is still having a few problems with reading.

It is an easy book to follow. Just remember to not do more than 10 minutes a day. They key is little and often.

thanks.so should i move on to next page if shes completed the 3 ticks?

Yes, if she has 3 ticks in a row, for each and every word/sound/letter on the page, then you have completed your exercise (and probably also run out of boxes to dot/tick) so then you go to the next page.

When I do toe by toe at school we tend to do 3 to 4 pages per session, and then at the next session we go back to those pages. So you don't finish one page before you move onto the next, you just do 10 minutes of work over however many pages it takes, as you only do each word/sound/letter once per session.
Then the fourth time we do it we move through the pages quicker as by then the child will have 3 ticks in a row for some/most of the words so we only have to do those where he/she still needs more ticks.

Does that make sense? The instructions are at teh front of the book, they can probably explain it better than me.
