Hi all
Thought this might be useful to this group.

Ds taught himself to read with subtitles. He had glue ear and it was a struggle to hear, so subtitles meant he could listen.

It also meant he had an odd reading vocabulary for a while as he was into WWII and plane documentaries.

We originally put them on because our screaming baby made it impossible to watch TV. They've been on ever since.

I was hoping for spontaneous reading to suddenly occur, but it's taken until Reception Class for my eldest to get going.

He's almost five and starting to read quite well. I've got nothing to use as reference point, so i don't know if that's good, bad or normal.
