Private Schools in Kent

Could anyone please share their thoughts on which private school would suit a very bright 7 year old boy with a sensory/adhd/hyper activity disorder? We’ve recently moved to Tenterden, Kent, but we are looking to move more into the countryside in the next year or so. It will still be somewhere between Tenterden, Cranbrook and perhaps even towards Smarden.
Our son is a very high functioning and sociable little boy who loves being outdoors.
He’s doing well at a local infant school but we feel that he would perhaps better suit an environment that can offer him more time outdoors and to be in a smaller class.
Thank you in advance.

Not private but worth considering Cranbrook ? It’s grammar (but I’ve been told like/feels/functions like a private school) so would suit a bright/able child. Also Bethany…good for SEN.

Yes but it's further into Kent.
St Faiths at Ash is brilliant.

MumOfStarWars · 25/02/2024 16:42

Sorry just re-read your post and realise you’re looking for prep rather then senior!

Blueberrycreampie · 25/02/2024 17:12

How about Dulwich in Cranbrook? Don't know an awful lot about it but friends say it's good.

Blueberrycreampie · 25/02/2024 17:15

Or Ashford Prep?

CountryBliss · 25/02/2024 18:47

@Blueberrycreampie thank you.
At the moment Dulwich is my husband’s favourite.

I would go for St Edmund's in Canterbury. I'm not a private school parent- but I am involved with a lot of kids, and IMHO the St Ed's kids are the happiest, best balanced and, frankly, nicest.

Marlborough House? Very nurturing and treats children as individuals. It's a lovely place for children to grow up in. There's an open day next week if you want to have a look.

A friend’s DS with ADHD has been very happy at Marlborough House

Vitriolinsanity · 27/02/2024 20:10

Have you looked at Bethany?

My friends DS is a pupil and smashing it!

CountryBliss · 28/02/2024 07:07

Thank you so mych @countrylifer . I’ll go and have a look around.

@Vitriolinsanity no. I thought that was for children who are 11 years +. My son is 7.

I would highly recommend Marlborough House. They have been excellent in our (very similar) experience.

CountryBliss · 28/02/2024 16:59

@Joey1976 thank you so much. I’m going to their open day next week.

Spring Grove in Wye near Ashford

YorkBound · 09/03/2024 20:25

He's a way from it yet but please don't send your SEN child to Cranbrook grammar, I know kids that are currently there with ASC's, it's not good.

CountryBliss · 10/03/2024 09:18

@YorkBound thank you. 🤗

How did you get on at Marlborough House OP?

CountryBliss · 10/03/2024 16:37

@Summertimerolls wonderful school. I was very impressed. It has great energy.
All of the children were so polite and well mannered. And I like the fact that they very much encourage their creative side too, and not just the academics.

Realise this thread is seven months old, but wanted to ask if anyone knows if Marlborough House School is closing?

I’ve head from someone that it will be. Is this correct?

It appears to be merging with Vinehall

Yes it is. I believe it’s as of next year.
A lot of the Marlborough parents are looking at other school options as Vinehall is in Robertsbridge.
