Hi everybody,
My DD15 is interested in becoming a florist, but can't start any qualifications until next year at the earliest. In the meantime she's booking onto a couple of private evening one offs (with me), but would like to get her teeth into something that will give her a good start. She's looking into weekend jobs too.

Does anyone know of any free courses or YouTube videos that tell you what you need (flowers, equipment, container etc) for the lesson you're about to see? I've spent ages looking but without luck.

Thank you for your help xx

It isn't really something she can learn on You Tube. I would get her out to flower shows, learning about different plants, how they grow/live/die. This knowledge is far more important than watching a video of how to make a bouquet.
Make friends with local florists, they might let her do some work experience or help out if they run courses.
I have a few friends who are florists and the bulk of their learning was done on the job.

Another thing she could do might be to ask at a local church which has flowers on Sundays whether she can help with the arrangements for the practical experience.

Re courses for later, this one is an example of an entry level course:

Foundation Certificate in Floristry (Level 1) - Capel Manor College

That's great advice, thank you.
She's been helping out with flowers for a friends funeral, and another friend's wedding, but there's been a bit of a lull recently.
She's waiting to hear back about work experience that will lead to a part-time job (fingers crossed!) She's just so desperate to keep learning in between the opportunities that come up.

There's a place near me that offers floristry courses and will also be offering officially qualifications if she wanted to go down the route later on. I did an introduction to floristry and then an intermediate course. The lady that runs it is brilliant.

Look up Wild Jasmine Floristry School.

I'd absolutely love to retrain as a florist. I did my daughter's wedding flowers from watching YouTube videos and they were gorgeous but I'd love to have proper training. Following this with interest!
There was lots on Pinterest too, so worth a look on there and also at instagram.

You might be able to find a suitable course on the City and Guilds website:

Thank you for all the suggestions and links.
I went down a rabbit hole looking at all the videos and Pinterest! It's all so beautiful and inspiring.

Following with interest! Does anyone have any tops of what’s involved in retraining to become a florist and what it’s like as a career?
