Difference between ACS Cobham , ACS Egham and TASIS?

Hi

Potentially moving to the surrey area from USA and exploring options for schools for 10 and 12 yr old boy and girl. Both love sports and are mid - high in academics.

If anyone has knowledge or experience of the international schools and their differences - would greatly appreciate some insight.
And / or if we should consider any independent schools if we choose to switch curriculum to the English system. We're not overly religious, so not sure if uk independent schools require that commitment?

We're returning Brit's, so wanting to feel "at home" in a community, but our kids are American, and we want the transition to be as smooth as possible for them.

Thanks for any thoughts Smile

I can offer some insight.

TASIS is mainly a boarding school. Very high fees and incredible grounds. It's small though.

ACs Egham is small. They only do the IB and have much more mixed opportunities for sports etc. But one of the best schools for the IB.

ACS Cobham is large wirh a huge variety of sports and extra curricular activities. They participate in loads of drama and theatre workshops. Many international sporting competions. Incredible grounds. The curriculum is flexible. They do High School Diploma, AP and IB
They are mainly a day school with a large international boarding house

Happy to answer any questions as my kids are at Cobham.

Thanks a lot! Which one do you think is more academically strong for UK universities? For example for Russel Group acceptance?

I private messages you. But I do know several of last years graduates went to Russel group/Oxbridge universities. Good luck . At ACS cobham.

Good Luck! I have two friends whose children are at ACS Cobham.

One friend's son and daughter are in boarding as they live abroad and the other are a local family. The kids all seem to be doing well.

Hi, have you made a decision yet about the schools? We’re a Turkish family, have a 12 years old son, planning to move to London this year from Istanbul. We visited ACS Cobham and seems to be a good option by means of his integration and the facilities are great. IB system vs A level puzzled my mind too though. They say IB is equally evaluated with A level but I’m not sure. However I think you can move to British system if necessary at year 9 latest for gcse.

Heroto4 · 01/03/2025 15:17

Yes the IB is the equivalent of ALevels. I have 2 children in ACS Cobham. I would definitely consider it. The sports are brilliant.

The school has college counsellors who guide the students on their options and university applications. It seems a good way to support them.were very happy there.

Morning, I just sent you a DM as two of my kids attend ACS Cobham- although I see a few ACS parents on this thread too! Happy to chat.

Hello.
Wondering the same.
Which one did you decide on?
Thanks!

MGK29 · 10/03/2026 04:00

We are moving to London from Tokyo this summer, looking for IB grade 11 spot for my son. Between ACS Cobham and ACS Egham - which would potentially be a better fit for IBDP student, who wants to continue participation in school team sports and service clubs. Be great to get some feedback on this, thank you in advance !

CurlyTop1980 · 10/03/2026 07:29

Hi. If your child is sporty then Cobham ACS. They have competitive sporting teams. The IB is the same across both school.

Egham sports are much more limited as the sporting facilities are all at Cobham. What sports is your son into?

Ah really - that is helpful to know. Egham seems a smaller campus in comparison to Cobham so the sports part was a concern. My son is currently in school team for basketball, tennis and soccer, would like to continue some of it I assume given IB workload is a lot! Egham website talks of pure IB expertise, was wondering if there was any advantage to how Egham approached IB versus Cobham which seems like a great blend for those who want AP or were in American at transition. Son did IGCSE British schools mostly, then moved to MYP/ IB when we moved to Tokyo 4 years ago.

CurlyTop1980 · 10/03/2026 16:28

The IB and AP programmes are split. So its the same as the students dont have mixed classes.

My kids are very happy. One of super sporty and is in football/tennis/basketball. The other one is all theatrical! Good luck
