11plus books for SATS practice

Hi I have lots of 11 plus books for when my daughter did her 11 plus, my son doesn't want to go down the 11 plus route but I was wondering, obviously bar the verbal/ non-verbal reasoning if her 11 plus books would ups be suitable for SATS prep to save money ?

There's no need to spend money on SATs prep - any prep needed will be done by your child's school.

It's not helpful to anyone IMHO - least of all the child - to artificially boost a SATs score by doing extra practice (if that is what you mean) as all it does (if it does anything at all - my DCs' school didn't use SATs scores) is push a child into the wrong set or give them improbably high target grades through KS3. I have seen it more than once as a teacher.

Yes. Some maybe a bit advanced but all are helpful.

Our state primary provided cgp practice books for sats. I wouldn't spend money on additional books.

A quick look at the verbal and non-verbal reasoning will stand your son in good stead if school does CAT testing to assess ability. I know you aren't supposed to be able to revise for them, but having seen some question styles before has to help.

It won’t be particularly helpful for SATS as they’re completely different from the 11+ but there will be plenty of people in 11+ areas who’ll bite your hands off for them.

The 11+ is a lot more difficult than SATs. If you really want him to prep, I would just check out the free SATs past papers that are posted online. And whatever the school gives for prep.

The best advice I can give and that really helped us is starting early and not doing a “crash course” style tutoring. The more relaxed your child feels the better their performance. If you can set up a test centre style set up at home where they practice under timed sessions, that’s great. There’s a great guide that we used that covers exam tips as well promoting good mental health. You’ve got this. Just continue boosting your child’s confidence.

I see there's already people screaming "ignore SATs", "you don't need to help your child" (etc etc). I suspect that's because some parents don't want their DCs looking comparatively weak in their academics.

If you want to help your kids then go for it - it's a great attitude to have.

To answer the OP's question, yes you can use 11+ books to prepare for SATs tests, just don't bother with any of the Verbal Reasoning or Non-Verbal Reasoning questions - they don't appear in SATs.

Good luck!
