Hi all
Would you expect to be told if your child was injured at school?
Primary school if that makes a difference.
Many thanks

It depends on the injury, the circumstances and how it was dealt with. Accidents can happen anywhere.

@Funderthighs in pe, dd was holding a football on the ground, another child kicked the ball, made contact with her hand, causing her finger to be bent backwards. Swelling which we have put an ice pack on..

I wouldn’t be cross with school about that but would sympathise with my child. That’s a straight forward PE accident.

@Funderthighs Thankyou for your thoughts! Very much appreciated!

You’re welcome. Hope your DD is better soon.

I would expect a accident slip from the school

44bookworm · 31/01/2024 16:29

School policy here is to send an injury slip home if any treatment was required - usually treatment is an ice pack or a plaster so nothing serious but I could wallpaper a room with the slips!

Gymmum82 · 31/01/2024 16:31

Generally we’d get an accident slip at the end of the day. But often they don’t make it home. I wouldn’t be upset in this instance at not being told

MargaretThursday · 31/01/2024 20:15

I wouldn't have expected for that, unless they thought it needed medical attention (ie might be broken), in which case I'd have expected a phone call at the time.

However 2 of mine hide injuries (the other one makes the biggest drama out of any possibility) so I've had all sorts of injuries up to a broken wrist coming home without the teachers being aware.

arethereanyleftatall · 31/01/2024 20:17

So nothing broken?
No, I wouldn't expect to be informed. I was a dinner lady in lockdown. There's an injury like that every two minutes.

PuttingDownRoots · 31/01/2024 20:18

The only time I've been physically told by a teacher about an injury was a head knock when they realised the accident slip was still on the teachers desk after home time. (Phone call)

Otherwise the child is trusted to give the slip over.

TinyYellow · 31/01/2024 20:19

I’d expect an accident form in the bag, but not a phone call during the day.

Namechange13101 · 01/02/2024 10:48

We get red slips in a book bag for falls, grazed knees, small cuts etc and a text with a red slip if it’s a head bump. Phone call for anything more serious that might need extra medical attention
