Any Scottish Primary teachers about?

Dd has come home from school with a certificate saying she has achieved level A in maths. I thought she'd got an A in a maths test, but it turns out that this is a national assessment thingy. She's just 6, in P2, and apparently in the top set for maths.

I've had a quick google, and have gathered that this seems to be the Scottish equivalent of KS1, and that this is the level she should be at.....good!

But what I'm interested in is how this works. Does the teacher set a test when the group is likely to pass it, or is it done at a set time...are we to expect reading/ writing tests as well?

Her homework, such as it is, is pretty basic; very simple sums (up to 20), basic fractions. Last night she was measuring volumes using a cup of water.I'm supposed I'm surprised that they're testing at all at this level, I would have thought that next year they would get more meaningful results....

Teachers sit the children when they are ready so it can be at any time of the year, sometimes with two years between tests. It's a good system as the children do not get stressed and parents cannot coach them. Well done to your DD!

Thanks....I'm very proud of her.

If there is a reading one, I'm surprised she hasn't done it yet- her reading is much better than her maths!
