Hi all,

I hope you are well.

Other than old SATs papers, is there other free resources for SATs year 6 please?

Thank you in advance

The schools tend to give these for HW weekly. My dd never did them because she did the 11+, which prepares you for SATs, as 11+ is more difficult (she ended up getting GDS for everything end of year 6). So you could also look at some 11+ practice papers, that you can find free online if you run out of SATs practice ones.

My daughter's primary gave all the children copies of the CGP (I think - I will double check....) SAT revision books. If your child's school doesn't do that you could probably get them from your local library or cheap secondhand.
Edit : it was these ones (see pic). When I just looked them up online there were links for free resources from the publisher too.

@Zssn just to add.....please don't put to much pressure on your child about SATS. They aren't really that important in the scheme of life.

Zssn · 05/01/2024 21:05

Needmorelego,

Thank you.

Will purchase them.

SamPoodle123,

Thank you.

My child too has done the 11plus, but just want to ensure right practice for SATs too.

Needmorelego,

Of course.

Just want my child to understand the format, because sadly the school has done nothing

I wouldn't put pressure on SATS unless you plan on keeping that up throughout secondary, the SATS results are used to generate predicted GCSE results.

Cowsontheloose · 05/01/2024 21:27

I have some learning guides I'm happy to post out. They were never used, she did great anyways

If they have done 11+ then they will already have covered more than enough for SATS so need to do anything as the school will already be prepping them

Edited

I'd personally be cheering that the school has done nothing so far as the children will be getting a better y6 experience than one that has them doing practice tests from September.

When you say the school has done nothing, what do you mean?

You certainly don’t want them to spend Year 6 just working through SATs papers. Hopefully the school is teaching a broad and balanced curriculum, as well as focussing a bit more on reading, writing and maths.

I would expect a good school to look at some SATs questions during the year, as part of their teaching, and then focus more on old papers a few weeks before the tests so that the children are familiar with the layout.

many schools also do NFER tests lower down the school so children are fairly familiar with test papers.

PilgorTheGoat · 07/01/2024 16:00

I’d not bother, the less said about SATs the better. It’s a test for the school not the children. I’d prefer they didn’t exist.

madnessitellyou · 07/01/2024 17:14

The school will be doing what they need to do (it's a measure of the school, remember, not the child) but there's no merit in ramming papers down their throats now - they are months away and really don't require extra prep.

Hollyhead · 08/01/2024 15:04

I wouldn’t expect a good school to start full on SATS familiarisation until after Feb half term. A term of getting used to the format is more than enough.

Lilacdressinggown · 08/01/2024 23:00

It’s too early to be thinking about SATS. Schools should be concentrating on teaching the curriculum not cramming for SATS. CATS are more of an indication of how the child is doing.
