Christ Church School Hampstead or New End

Hello,

I was really hoping some people on here might be able to tell me some things about these two schools. We are looking for my daughter (first child going to school) and really confused about which to put first. We are equal distance/ criteria from both.

initially we had assumed New End as we’re not Church of England, however we then toured Christ Church and were really impressed.

Some of the key aspects I’m wondering about are:

Is CC more academic? I was so impressed by the teaching & level of writing in reception. We’re not ambitious academically but my daughter already loves writing and has always needed a lot of stimulation. (We’d be looking at a state secondary- probably in a different part of the city)

Might the behaviour and individual attention be better at CC?

Would it be problematic going to CC as non Church of England? DP & I both went to CCE primaries and loved them…

and really any other information about how the two schools compare.

we really liked both!

Hi,

just wondering which one you opted for in the end and what your thoughts are on the school you ended up going for? Going through this process with our first child so just trying to get any intel 😊! Thank you.

I’ve just seen this! I think we’re opting for CC… our daughter hasn’t started yet but so far we’re overall very impressed. Most aspects seem a league above the other primaries. We’ve been very impressed with the teachers, behaviour, school ethos. The projects. The opportunities. The learning. It feels private/ independent school in its quality.

The only aspects we’re less keen on are it seems quite “pushy”, especially as the children grow older. It’s also not hugely relaxed/ warm in its approach to parents, IMO, compared to the other schools we looked at. It’s very academics first.

Hope this helps a bit!

Fitzjohn is well worth a look as is Gospel Oak primary.

Just an update, we’ve actually decided we’re going to put Fitzjohn as our first choice. We don’t apply until the autumn, but asking around we decided that as a family it was more up our street. But all the schools seemed good and it’s been hard deciding! So we just have to wait until April next year to find out!

Can you elaborate a bit more on what it was that you heard? Looking to move to the area so less chance to speak with local parents… would be so helpful to know what tipped scales for you in different direction!

Very out of date but I’ve just seen this. We have friends with children at both schools and both are really happy. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either - it just depends which feels best to you as they are quite different places. FJ is home clothes, teachers by the first name and more chaotic , which we liked. CC we really did like a lot too, it just felt more formal.
