Can some help me understand the process of moving childrens schools.

Im from Yorkshire will be moving to Chesterfield beginning of December and i have 3 children.
11,4,3.
I dont even know where to beginning with changing schools.

Iv picked 2 schools that im hoping have spaces.

It says to keep them in current school until given a place in new school, im moving a hour and 20mins away from there current school.
But at the same time i cant apply for new school because i haven't got the keys yet.
So what do i do.

I emailed new council they said to apply for a inyear transfer then when i move they will take over, yet my current council wont recognise the new postcode so i cant do that. Stressed!!

Yep get the keys (or, possibly, dependant on the council, exchange on a house purchase / sign a tenancy agreement).
Apply for in year transfers for all kids.
I asked which schools had places in the relevant years, so knew where was sensible to put on the form.

My (new) council were incredibly efficient. We had places offered within 24 hours of applying. Started 2 weeks later - and they would have taken us earlier. I had the slight headache of an international move to deal with, since they let us apply a few days before we flew....

You can ask the schools if they have spaces. Then apply when you get the keys. Knowing what is available gives you a head start. Schools must admit if they have spaces.

Is the 11 year old secondary or primary? Some authorities keep details of vacancies on their web sites. So knowledge of vacancies is important.
