I live far away in a landlocked place, where my children are attending a multicultural private school. So far, so good - we're delighted with their progress and with their evident pride in their work and strengthening self-confidence, largely due to the excellent teaching staff. However, the school is in a temporary location (office buildings & therefore highly unsuited to educating young children) & is desperately seeking permission to build a proper school on some land they've managed to buy not too far away. Land is, of course, expensive but getting permission to use this land to build a school is most of the battle: all sorts of local political and financial reasons, mainly because the local government is socialist & doesn't want to be pressured by these obvious demands and needs of foreign employees of foreign companies flooding the area with their families for private bilingual schools. (Am I clear? I'm not sure. I've had more than usual tonight & I'm tired as well)

Anyway, to make a long story longer, I belong to the PTA of this private school. The other members and I get together every so often and discuss "school issues" which has become increasingly difficult to do without a major bitch-complain-whinge-fest. Because the director of the school is not coming up with the goods, or not as soon as was hoped, most of these meetings are spent slagging him off.

I believe the school will be built eventually, I believe the director when he tells us "things are progressing" but if I didn't, I certainly wouldn't put heart & soul into planning fondue evenings for the 'concerned & interested' parents, would you? Are my fellow members a bunch of bored mothers/housewives with nothing more stimulating to do with their retired Phds & brilliant left-behind careers than chasing after other parents to support the school by paying an arm & a leg to be able to dip their germy cheesy forks into each others' fondue pots?

Am I making any sense here or should I shut up & go to bed?

admiration for being able to have a narrative that includes to dip their germy cheesy forks into each others' fondue pots?

Iwant to know where you live. How many children attend this office/school?Sounds intriguing.

brimfull · 10/03/2008 23:34

Me thinks you'll have to sleep with the local planning bod or govt officer.

brimfull · 10/03/2008 23:35

If that doesn't work ,then resign.

brimfull · 10/03/2008 23:43

you've gone to sleep now haven't you?

cariboo · 11/03/2008 10:08

Sorry! I did go to sleep. Writing all that helped me to calm down. I also appreciated rereading my "to dip their germy cheesy forks into each others' fondue pots". LOL now I'm sober!

still dithering about what to do, if anything. If I tell them what I really think of them, I'll be PNG at the school gates. Maybe I should keep quiet, let it all blow over, slink off, etc.
