Help with high schools in Oxford

Hi,

My family and I are moving to oxford, and we'd love some insights regarding high schools in the city. We will be living in the OX2 area, and are trying to which high schools are the ones relevant for our twin 14 year old twin boys.

Would appreciate any help I can get,

Thank you!

Are you looking for state or private schools and when will they enrol ie January or April 24 or later when they turn 15?

As above. If state, I recommend ringing the council as soon as you can to find out where there are spaces - desirable Oxford schools tend to be pretty full.

OX2's main schools are Matthew Arnold or Cherwell. Depending on which bit of OX2 you are in, nearby schools will also include Gosford Hill (Kidlington) or The Swan School. The other city secondaries are Cheney, Oxford Spires, Greyfriar's and The Oxford Academy.

Thank you!!
they will turn 15 on the 11 of June.
looking for state schools. I’ve contacted Cherwell, and they are oversubscribed, but I hope we will manage to get in.
we will plan our move date according to the time we will be admitted to a school. So possibly Jan or later.

I will get in touch with the council as well, thanks

You might not be able to apply for a place until you've moved. As it's Year 10 they're moving into, it's better to a) make sure they can take the GCSE options they want and b) move as soon as you can so they don't miss a lot of the course.

@zoreket , are you familiar with the U.K. education system? You are looking for 2 x Year 10 places which will be tricky to find. Ask your employer for help and join relevant Facebook groups too.
Also read up on the structure of GCSE courses, dc take exams in 8 - 10 subjects at the end of year 11, it's a 2 year course and the content isn't repeated so if you miss the classroom coverage of a Shakespeare play at the start of year 10 the teaching won't be repeated before you sit the English lit exam including Shakespeare at the end of year 11.

Are you coming from overseas? Are dc already following a curriculum like gcses although even these may not easily transfer mid year 10. These are minimum two year courses with exams taken in summer of year 11. State schools may be reluctant to intake during year 10/11 and popular ones will be full.
