Has anyone had any experience of Baines Cutler?

They seem to be in independent schools - a sort of consultancy practice?

What sort of things do they do? Is it fees, building projects, workload?

Do they advise parents and staff, too?

Sorry if I am being a bit naive. I know that they have come into my own school in the past, but I am unclear about how / why we would be using them and who benefits. Has anyone had any experience? (Is it to do with pensions?)

I will bump this for the evening MNers. Or it might be that they are not as widely used as I had thought, perhaps.

Yes, I work in schools HR and we regularly complete salary surveys for Baines Cutler. They also do bespoke consultancy for schools - market research, catchment analysis etc. their website is pretty informative on the services they offer.

Are pay scales confidential in the independent sector? Do Baines Cutler publish them?

I always think it would be quite useful to know the pay scales of independent schools before you apply for jobs.

The TES just says ‘competitive’ - and often they pay worse than the state sector!

The scales are unique to the school. Where I work it's above maintained but others won't be.

Baines cutler share their findings with the schools which take part. There are more general reports available from isba, Agbis etc but not public.

Thanks @bookgirl1982 . That’s really interesting. Why would other schools want to know, though?

To check how their pay compares to their competitors locally and nationally. Important for recruitment and retention.

Would that drive salaries up or down? I wonder what their impact is on teacher pay across the sector.
