I've seen some comments about Landmark education. What's that?

Sorry I offended you Chubbics

I am very foolish

northernrefugee39 · 17/03/2008 16:07

Have your friends been irrevocably affected by Landmark would you say?

Are you trying to find a way to get them out?

Or are you just missing your friends?

It's a tricky one.

The woman I knew who was involved became a different person from the one I knew.
We workd together, but saw each other outside of work too; although I then wondered whether hr motives for saying "Lets go for a drink" were to recruit me, long before she mentioned it.

Chubbics · 17/03/2008 18:29

I wouldn't say 'irrevocably' affected - and no, I'm not trying to get them out. I'll leave that to them or their families.

But I am doing an investigation and I'm looking for information that's a little more forensic that the stuff you find on Google. There's very little, for example, on the company in schools (in the US or the UK) but I know it's going on.

If anyone can tip me off, I'd be very grateful. I can always be emailed privately and I treat people's help in the strictest of confidence.

... and, northernrefugee you didn't offend me (I was being a little hasty in my response!)

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 18:32

I did the Landmark course a few years ago. Seriously weird. I actually got some great things out of it, but I was totally turned off by the fact that at the end of the course they expected me to turn into some sort of Evangelist, recruiting friends and family to do the course too. Bollox to that.

northernrefugee39 · 17/03/2008 19:33

Oh Chubbics- I don't mind; mumsnet makes you quite hard skinned....

The fact they're getting into schools is really quite alarming, and creepy. Secondary schools I assume

Mrs. What did you get out of it then? Can you expand? Why so weird? a
And were they very pushy about pushing ?

barking · 17/03/2008 19:47

Hi everyone
I read somewhere they have courses for 8 years +

barking · 17/03/2008 19:49

landmarkyoungpeople here

yuck

DianaW · 17/03/2008 20:40

At the risk of offending Chubbics again, who may certainly be exactly who she says she is, I would be very very very very very very very very careful calling or emailing someone privately and offering anything "forensic" regarding a very controversial group like that. Even more careful than I would be about doing it publicly! I know that it makes it harder, Chubbics, and I am sorry to appear to work against you if you are simply concerned for friends, but asking people to give you "dirt" like that at their own risk is very sticky.

comincomin · 17/03/2008 21:43

Actually having scrolled through this, I think I might be one of the few who has done any of the courses. The forum literally changed my life in a very positive way: signficantly increased my success at work; got married; far better relationship with my father.

A lot of what they teach is really really good stuff.

HOWEVER there definately are some issues with it I think in that the organisation does try to get people permanantly taking courses rather than living life. And yes I have some issues with their children and teen courses too - though to be fair they can only do the forum and don't have other courses for them.

Its a tough one cos I do thing its probably the single best most 'change your life' thing I have done in my life; BUT don't hink its 100% benign as a organisation. That said when I specifically said don't call or contact me again. They didn't.

Chubbics · 17/03/2008 21:47

You're right, DianaW ... I don't think you're working against me ... and i appreciate I'm asking people who may know to take a risk. But for people who are concerned that may be a worth taking. There's also a risk on my part asking people to get in touch with me but it's something i feel strongly motivated to do. If it's any help, I'm very professional in the way I got about these things ...

P.S. I don't get offended that easily ... i was just a little hasty in my comments the other day.

shreddies · 17/03/2008 21:53

I've done it too, and I don't think there's anything particularly sinister about it. It's a course, or a lot of courses rather, and there is pressure to do more of them and to get your friends to do them too. But if you put that aside I think the forum itself is pretty good.

For a while after I got the occasional phonecall telling me about some other seminar or whatever, but when I asked them not to bother calling any more that was that.

barking · 18/03/2008 18:05

Fab article here margaret singer
Sadly no longer with us. She would have been a great challenger to anthroposophy

comincomin · 18/03/2008 20:31

Eer? Not entirely sure what is so great about the article or its relevance to landmark or this thread. .
Cleary from someone who has never been near the place. Cleary 'Barking'

barking · 19/03/2008 06:50

I'm barking very clearly thank you and this links to the recent steiner thread you may have seen, which is why I mentioned anthroposophy.
It's the less than the benign nature of both these movements that concern myself and others.

northernrefugee39 · 19/03/2008 10:52

"there are always sharpies around who want to hornswoggle people"

She sounded great!

Steiner Waldorf is considered a cult by many, and Landmark are active in some Steiner Waldorf communities. They can obviously spot people who are open to their ways.

When you say it changed your life, can you say how? In your achievments and expectations?

northernrefugee39 · 19/03/2008 11:53

A short version of the cult of anthroposophy and Steiner Waldorf can be found here

cult education

PheonixShytes · 19/03/2008 20:57

What has anthroposophy and Steiner Waldorf got to do with Landmark?

Sweet FA should be the answer - so why bring it in to this thread?

Eva52 · 20/03/2008 00:37

Northernrefugee39 hates it so much she can't help dropping comments everywhere she goes here at MN telling everyone about it. She seems to belong in the last ("In spite ... at times ...") group described here.

OP posts:
northernrefugee39 · 20/03/2008 07:40

Lush/phoen, ask Sune, he started the thread.
Landmark are active in many Steiner communities, they see an opportunity to suck in suceptible people I think.

Eva Sune- hate is a strong word, there are other people connected with steiner who came on this thread...and yes, I'll tell everyone about the lies and deception, rather than people like you, who "tell everyone" on here and websites, things that aren't the whole truth. It is deceiptful and morally wrong. Shame on you.
You are so angry and afraid, you have done several things that make me say that..getting at me by outing my name which would only harm my kids, talking about hate the whole time, writing to peter Staudenmaier's universty. Shame on you.

PheonixShytes · 20/03/2008 09:14

Landmark is not active in our community. But, I get what you are saying which is there are vulnerable people who are still looking to fill that missing gap. Naturally you will come across them in all communities and not just in Steiner.

northernrefugee39 · 20/03/2008 16:27

Can I call you Shytes for short?

Yes, they aren't in masses of steiner communities, but I'm sure they're hoping to spread... just like the Steiner "movement/community"

Off for hols tommorow til tues.... well not hols ..MIL....

Bye!

luckyapplebee · 24/03/2008 14:46

I think Chubbics, that you can gather as much info and anecdotes about Landmark as you like, but maybe if you really want to know for yourself you should just go and do the Landmark Forum. I guess you can't really judge unless you've done it for yourself. And, having done lots of research, you would at least be going in well-prepared and it's unlikely anyone would be able to take adavantage of you in a way you're not happy with.
That's my opinion.
