Swimming lessons

My ds (age6) has been offered lessons at a local pool, which follow the dolphin swimming plan. Previously, he has had lessons at a different pool (which we couldn't continue due to work/difficulties getting there) and these lessons followed the ASA National Swim awards - he was in a Level 3 class.

Does anybody know if the dolphin awards are similar to the ASA awards? If he is working towards Level 3, which level would he be in for dolphins? Or would it be better if I try to get him into another National Swim Award class? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't think it matters. They will access what he can do and put him in the appropriate class. Do you know how long the lessons are for and how many are in a class? That would be more important to me that Dolphin vs ASA. A small class of min 30 mins would be a good start.

It's a class of 6 or 7 and the lesson lasts 30 mins. I'm just wondering if it will be very different from what he has already been taught, though the end result should be the same!

My club runs ASA National Swim Awards and that's the only one I'm familiar with. I really wouldn't worry about the switch (the National Swim Awards are changing this year in any case). The new teachers will put your child in at the right level on the new scheme - there can be differences between children notionally at the same level on the swim awards (due to some teachers being more leinient than others), so even at a new swim award place they will almost certainly reassess.

our area also has the dolphin scheme and the asa awards. my dd (7yo) has her dolphin 5 and this is about average for her age from what i can gather. get an appointment to get your ds assessed and they will let you know which class to put him in. both are schemes equally valuable and very similar in content.
