School review websites?

Are there any free websites similar to locrating that provide a good review of schools?

If you like data, try this: https://www.get-information-schools.service.gov.uk/.

If you trust Ofsted, try this: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/

If you are only interested in schools that pay to be reviewed, try this: https://www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk/

If you are only interested in schools that pay to have their results listed in the Times, try this: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/best-uk-schools-guide-parent-power-tr95xdztg

If you're interested in random reviews by random parents on the internet, who may or may not be objective, either use Google, or else search here on Mumsnet for the school name. (And if you can't find anything, start your own thread with the school name in the title).

Schools don't pay to be reviewed by the good schools guide. But it's not free to access. Parents pay a subscription to read.

@Rebbecca101 you need to start a new thread for your question.

For state schools this: https://www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables. This has all the information about a school but since Covid it won’t let you compare schools. Also lots of schools become academies so you need to do a proper dig to find past performance ( there will be two entries). You can pull up a list of all schools in the country in order of GCSE or added value etc.
For private there is muddy Stilettos (some on here say this is paid for, I don’t know) or Good School Guide (has some state too) but it’s expensive to subscribe to. Telegraph did a recent list of primary’s schools (with postcode finder) and Times (seems to have dropped primary this year) list secondary but how they compile their list is a bit of a mystery and I certainly wouldn’t trust it as more than a guide.
Hope this helps.

Compare the performance of schools and colleges in England

Check school performance tables (‘league tables’), Ofsted reports and financial information.

Definitely not Muddy Stilettos - you pay to be in it and you can shape a lot of what they say.
I take the very positive Mumsnet reviews with a pinch of salt - they often seem suspiciously like the school marketing team!

@gettingthereonemistakeatatime the government web site does not seem to include even the most basic data on the independent sector. I wonder how this affects the numbers? surely the fact that high achieving schools like the girls well known wycombe abbey, boys eton, plus all the hundreds of other selective post secondaries would cause a tiny dent in regional averages if their data was included.

Pinkcherry26 · 16/10/2025 08:53

Independent schools don't do the baseline tests or SATs so they wouldn't be able to report on the progress data which state schools do (and which is really more valuable than just attainment). Their finances are wildly different so you couldn't compare their financial data either.
