No to all 3

ggglmpp · 06/03/2008 17:56

ONCE played lacrosse against St Bedes - they won. Sum total of my knowledge.

Pollyanna · 06/03/2008 17:59

Cam are they all rubbish?

I am also interested in this...

Cam · 06/03/2008 18:00

Well no they're not rubbish.

It depends what you're looking for.

I would say they are very average.

LLD · 06/03/2008 18:04

Thanks Cam. Any suggestions for sussex then..? (We really don't want to move..)

Are you looking for senior or prep and whreabouts are you roughly geographically?

Pollyanna · 06/03/2008 18:13

I had heard that St Bede's is alternative and not academic, but still a nice school if that is what would suit your child.

Pollyanna · 06/03/2008 18:14

have you got boys or girls?

LLD · 06/03/2008 19:22

I've got one boy and one girl and am looking for senior schools, ideally the same one for both. They are both bright. We live on the South coast in East Sussex.

i agree with Cam, no to all 3. St Bedes is gret for tennis...but not so hot if you want to learn anything really

LLD · 06/03/2008 20:11

So where then...??

OP posts:
MABS · 06/03/2008 20:13

can you be slightly more specific re what area? driving distances perhaps?

Cam · 06/03/2008 22:25

LLD are you towards the Brighton end of East Sussex or the other end?

Good senior day schools are thin on the ground in East Sussex.

West Sussex at one end or Kent at the other end are better served (IMHO)

LLD · 07/03/2008 19:45

other end - go on tell me the bad news...

My little sister (16) goes to Battle Abbey its a very good school with excellent results. She enjoys it - she is quite academic, the only thing she hates about it is sports , so thats not bad, she's been there since she was about 10.

LLD · 07/03/2008 23:34

Hurray! More of those sort of posts, please.

marmadukescarlet · 08/03/2008 00:03

I was going to say Brighton, but wrong end.

Cam · 08/03/2008 11:29

Have you been to look around any of the 3 schools you mention LLD?

ipanemagirl · 08/03/2008 11:36

My sister's children go to St Richard's in Bexhill which is RC and hard to get into unless you're RC but it has traditionally done very well. It has good discipline from what I hear and high academic standards.

LLD · 08/03/2008 11:53

Yes, diehard atheists so no hope St R. Have looked at Battle, small but nice, not sure wide enough curric etc. DS has been to Eastbourne on an art day and thought it was fab (but doesn't have much to compare it to). We are planning to go to open days in April.

That is one of the main problems with BA, they're too small. They say they offer the full range of subjects but actually it is dependent on how many pupils choose a subject.

EC - I know several boys who go there, it seems to be good for boys sport.

Cam · 08/03/2008 11:58

Are your children currently in the private system, or state?

LLD · 08/03/2008 12:22

Private, so will stay until 13. Need very good science and pref. DT for the boy.

OP posts:
Cam · 08/03/2008 12:27

So now I'm wondering which prep you are at

LLD · 08/03/2008 14:29

Going to have to plead the 5th...
