Cambridge GCSE Remark

My child just got their Cambridge English remark- thankfully gained a few marks. However despite hitting the grade boundary above, was not awarded a higher grade. I know Cambridge tell you this can happen. However we don't understand......why does the mark go up but not the grade. Is this how they mark in the summer too- at the discretion of the awarding body. I find this unfair.
Who can we take it up with- the school say Cambridge often do this.

Not sure if you’ll see this, but what happened with your grade?

Hi @WhatToDoThis !

How many papers were there for this subject and what weighting was given to each paper?

Your child's school should know or be able to request an explanation.

Good luck!

Did they hit the boundary number or go over it? No expert but I imagine if the numbers are something like the following -

85 - 100/100 - grade 9

70 - 84/100 - grade 8

(or whatever)…if you score 84 you are at the boundary but not over it, so the grade doesn’t change. Even if you gained marks - increasing from 79 to 84, you are still at a grade 8.

PP has nailed it.
if you get 4 extra marks but still are not over the boundary for the next grade of course you don’t go up a grade.

That hadn’t occured to me! Thanks for clarification
