Best schools for autistic girls in Oxford?

Morning all. My daughter is in year 6 and struggling. She’s being assessed for autism (which seems pretty conclusive already). We have to select schools shortly for the secondary admissions lottery.

She is incredibly intelligent (can do year 7/8 maths and reads young adult books with ease). Huge knowledge in her head - just a lack of ability to cope with interpersonal relationships.

Can anyone suggest the best options for schools? We would prefer to go state, but could afford the less expensive private schools if necessary.

Or equally, where to avoid?

Look at wychwood and d’overbroecks. Different set ups but I know young people who are neurodiverse that have been well supported at both of these.

Swan seems a bit love it or hate it. Suspect your dd will not get on well with the constant threat of discipline.

state secondaries I would look at all if possible but which you get depends on location and luck!

My Daughter has Austism and is also very intelligent however she went to Oxford High from Y7 to Y8 and hated it, so pressured and loads of bullying we moved her to Cherwell (state) and she LOVES it, so much support for SEN and an amazing state school would defo consider Cherwell!!!

@flowergirly13 did you live in the Cherwell catchment area? If you don't, it's nigh on impossible to get a place.

Yes we live in Upper Wolvercote but she was still on a waiting list for 2 years

Coming to this really late, sorry, but in case your DD is now in a school that isn't working for her, I would recommend Oxford High School. My DD is currently in Year 8 there. There are students in the school with autism, including her year group, and I've been so moved by the way in which all the girls look out for each other and her. My DD doesn't have autism but does have other learning needs and one of the many things I love about the school is how she (and the other girls) are just allowed to be themselves. The SENDCo is amazing too.
